Police reported that a burglary took place on Saturday evening around 9.30pm in Schrassig. Two perpetrators broke into a house’s garage but fled upon realising the residents had spotted them. However, the residents gave chase and managed to catch one of the suspects on a secondary road, restraining him until police arrived.
A second patrol, alerted to the situation, identified and arrested the second suspect. Upon searching both individuals, officers found a knife, a vodka bottle, and a large sum of money. Investigations later revealed that these items had been stolen from a bistro on Rue de la Gare in Oetrange.
The public prosecutor ordered the detention of one suspect, who appeared before an investigating judge on Sunday morning. The second suspect, a minor, was initially placed in a socio-educational centre before being transferred to Schrassig on the prosecutor’s order, as he was already subject to a court ruling.
Over the past 24 hours, police responded to 60 calls across the country regarding nighttime disturbances and disputes. In most cases, the situation had already de-escalated by the time officers arrived, or they were able to resolve matters on-site.
However, an exception occurred in Esch-sur-Alzette, where officers encountered a heavily intoxicated and aggressive individual. Unable to calm the person down, police placed them in temporary custody to sober up and ordered a medical examination.
A similar incident unfolded in front of a bistro on Route de Longwy in Pétange. Officers instructed an intoxicated man to leave the premises, but he refused, growing increasingly aggressive and loud. As a result, he was also taken into temporary custody following a medical evaluation.
