The prosecution has requested a six-month prison sentence for a lorry driver involved in the tragic accident, which could be suspended, along with a fine and a four-year driving ban.

The case concerns a fatal crash on 8 July 2020, when a Polish lorry struck the last car in a queue of traffic. The impact pushed the vehicle into a van, killing two young fathers.

This week, the court reviewed the circumstances of the accident. Investigators found that the traffic jam had been caused by a woman who slowed down in the tunnel before coming to a complete stop, creating a long line of vehicles behind her.

The woman has also been charged with causing a traffic obstruction. During the hearing, she said she stopped because of technical problems with her car.

The verdict is expected on 27 November.
