On Friday evening, police received reports of a group of cars driving at high speed and overtaking on the right towards Luxembourg City. The cars then exited the motorway at Pontpierre and ended up in the vicinity of a shopping centre in Wickrange.
At the scene, officers were able to locate several modified cars, issuing warnings to the drivers after carrying out checks.
At around 10.15pm, a patrol noticed a car at the same location with faulty rear lights and number plate illumination. Police followed the car and stopped it in Schifflange.
The driver did not have their licence on them, and the car did not meet legal requirements for road use. After refusing to pay an on-the-spot fine, police called a tow truck and the car was taken to the station.
Police also spotted another car that repeatedly made loud noises from its exhaust. Upon inspections, they found that illegal modifications had been made to the exhaust system and seized that vehicle as well.
Early on Saturday at around 1.40am, a patrol observed a car travelling from the motorway towards Esch city centre. The car was seen weaving along Rue de Luxembourg and nearly mounting the pavement.
Police stopped the vehicle, although the driver did not initially respond to signals and only reacted once officers knocked on the window. While the car's documents were in order, the driver showed clear signs of alcohol consumption.
The breathalyser test was positive and due to the high reading, the driver was issued a provisional driving ban and had their licence confiscated.
