Police conducted speed checks on the A1 motorway heading towards Trier, near the Cargo Centre exit, between 9am and 10am on Wednesday.

Four drivers were found to be travelling so far above the limit that their driving licences were confiscated on the spot.

In a further 27 cases, motorists were fined €145 and lost two points from their driver's licences each for exceeding the speed limit by more than 25km/h.

Another motorist was fined €49 for speeding.

Police also noted several other infringements: four drivers were found without the proper vehicle documents, and one was caught using a mobile phone while driving, resulting in a €250 fine and the loss of four points from the driver's license.
