Passerbys witnessed the unusual behaviour and alerted police.
When officers arrived at the petrol station, they found that the two men had already poured 530 litres into the container. The tank was not properly attached to their German-registered vehicle.
The driver also failed to present a valid authorization to transport such a large amount of a dangerous substance. His car insurance was also invalid.
Police seized both vehicle and tank and lodged a complaint.
