The Grand Ducal police is due to begin a wave of recruitment and held a police day in Mersch as a means to present the police's work.

The force is looking to recruit and those interested can apply until 31 July. The last police day was organised in Walferdange in 2017. This year's edition took place in Mersch on Sunday. The police organised the event to showcase their work in the hopes of attracting young people to the profession.

Many different police units presented their work and participated in demonstrations, giving information at stalls and showing their vehicles and tools. The last point was especially thrilling for children visiting the police day:  they were allowed to have their photo  taken inside the police helicopter, which can carry eight police officers alongside the pilot.

The police's press officer Fränk Stoltz explained that the aim of the police day was to familiarise the public with a wide range of different police units. The canine unit, however, was absent due to the high temperatures.

Police vehicles from other European countries were also showcased on the day. The special guest of the day was the new Italian police car, a Lamborghini. The vehicle certainly drew attention to itself, as the Lamborghini can give chase at up to 300 km/h.

People interested in joining the police force can apply until 31 July. After the deadline, applicants will need to successfully pass language tests in Luxembourgish, French, German and English. Applicants must also take a civics examination, get both medical and psychological approval, and pass the fitness test.

Any applicants passing all the tests and fulfilling the criteria will be able to then begin the two year training course in January 2020.
