The speed checks on the N11 near Junglinster saw police catch a number of drivers surpassing the 90 km/h speed limit on Thursday. A total of eleven motorists lost two points from their licence and were fined €145 for driving more than 20 kilometres over the speed limit, while nine people were fined €49 for speeding less than 20 kilometres over the limit.
One motorist was driving so fast that his licence was taken away on the spot.
Another driver was caught using his mobile phone at the wheel, prompting police to take four points from the man’s licence, as well as issuing a €145 fine. Yet another driver was fined and had two points taken for not following police orders when he was stopped.
On the same stretch of road, officers were notified of a lorry weaving across lanes and driving dangerously. A patrol located the vehicle near Lauterborn, where they established that the driver was intoxicated and over the legal limit. He had his licence withdrawn as a result.
Later on Thursday evening, a vehicle was reported to be blocking the N11 in Dommeldange. It later continued on towards Waldhaff. Police caught up with the driver at his home, where they carried out a breathalyser test. The individual promptly had his licence confiscated for driving whilst under the influence.
Elsewhere, a number of other intoxicated motorists lost their licences for the same reason, with incidents in Hassel, Leudelange and in Gasperich.
