Speeding, drink drivingPolice catch three drunk drivers in two speed checks

RTL Today
Three motorists were pulled over by police on Sunday for driving under the influence, while others were targeted on the A3 and A13 as part of wider speed checks.

In Belval a van caught officers’ attention due to its erratic driving style. A patrol pulled the vehicle over in Rue Emile Mark, where it transpired that the driver was intoxicated. His licence was withdrawn as a result.

The same result occurred in Contern after a car was stopped by police for zigzagging across the road.

Yet another drunk driver was caught on the A7 near Mersch, as officers pulled the vehicle over and made the driver perform a breathalyser test.

The Grand Ducal police also carried out speed checks on the A3 near the Gluck roundabout to observe whether motorists were sticking to the 70 km/h speed limit. No fewer than 23 drivers were caught speeding and made to pay fines of €49 or €145 respectively, with some losing two points on their licence for the transgression.

One driver paid the higher fine and lost points because they overtook another vehicle in a zone where overtaking is prohibited. Another driver paid €74 because their car tax was not up to date, and a third paid €24 because they did not have their licence with them.

Another speed check was carried out on the A13 near Esch-sur-Alzette on Sunday, catching 12 drivers travelling more than 25 kilometres over the speed limit. This offence cost them two licence points and a fine of €145. Another driver was forced to pay the maximum fine because their passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
