Luxembourg police are appealing for witnesses following a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Friday, 9 May, in Mersch.
The incident took place between 2.30pm and 4.50pm on Rue d’Arlon, where two vehicles were involved in a collision. One of the vehicles, a BMW, sustained damage to the driver’s side, including the wing mirror. The responsible driver left the scene without assessing the damage or exchanging details.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the fleeing driver or their vehicle to contact the Mersch police station at 244 901 000 or via email at police.mersch@police.etat.lu.
In unrelated incidents, police recorded multiple cases of drink-driving on Friday night.
The first occurred around 3am on the A13, where officers noticed a stationary car on the hard shoulder. When approached, the driver became aggressive and refused to undergo a breathalyser test, while the passenger also failed to cooperate. As the officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, the driver suddenly entered the vehicle and started the engine, prompting police to intervene. The motorist was taken into custody, where a subsequent breathalyser test led to the revocation of their driving licence.
Later that night, a collision occurred on Allée Scheffer in Luxembourg City. A car exiting a parking lot breached a barrier, striking another vehicle and a lamp post before stopping. Although the two occupants were unharmed, they were uncooperative and verbally abusive toward officers. After being taken to the police station, a breathalyser test confirmed alcohol impairment, resulting in a temporary driving ban for the motorist.
On Friday evening, a vehicle collided with crash barriers on the A6 near the Mamer access road but continued driving erratically. Police later located the driver at their home address, where a breathalyser test confirmed alcohol impairment, resulting in the revocation of their driving licence.
On the same night on Rue du Canal in Esch-sur-Alzette, a car struck another vehicle and attempted to flee. However, witnesses intervened, preventing the driver from leaving before police arrived. A subsequent breathalyser test proved positive, leading to the driver’s licence being revoked.
During a routine speed check on Boulevard Kennedy in Käerjeng, officers noticed a motorist struggling to drive in a straight line. As the vehicle approached, the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes, prompting police to pull them over. After confirming intoxication, authorities revoked the individual’s driving licence.
