The week-long campaign was brought to life by the European Roads Policing Nework “Roadpol” and takes place across many countries at the same time. Especially speeding infringements will be monitored, given that they are still responsible for a majority of fatal road accidents in Europe.
In the context of the campaign, the Grand Ducal Police will conduct extensive speed checks on Wednesday 21 April. Over the course of 24 hours, officers will instal control points across the country, mostly focusing on peak traffic hours (6.00-8.30 a.m. and 4.00-6.30 p.m.).
The so-called “speed marathon” is supposed to raise awareness of the dangers caused by driving too fast. The police will therefore provide regular updates (#speedmarathon) about the campaign on their social media outlets.
