In recent months, passengers have raised concerns about the organisation of several bus stops in Kirchberg. Similar issues are now being reported on Avenue Monterey in Luxembourg City.
Bus stop 4 on Avenue Monterey is regularly crowded with buses. Departures, final stops, and drivers on breaks all share the same platform, with seven different routes using it for multiple purposes.
In conversation with RTL, regular passenger Emile Lucas explained that the situation is confusing, particularly when buses on break are parked at the front. He said passengers are forced to constantly move around to check when their bus number appears, while also keeping an eye out for buses that are about to depart.
To avoid missing their bus, Lucas and his wife have developed their own strategy: one stays at the back of the platform while the other walks up and down to check when the correct bus number is displayed. Other passengers have adopted similar tactics, checking displays as soon as they arrive and moving along the platform to locate their bus.
According to Léon Ludovici, Director of the Public Transport Administration, buses on breaks are not supposed to be mixed with those in service at the same stop. He explained that buses should remain at their designated stop, and if drivers take a break, they should leave and rejoin the queue at the back afterwards.
He added that this guidance will be communicated again to bus operators to ensure proper implementation.
Similar problems have been reported in Kirchberg in recent months. Following earlier criticism, changes were introduced at the Luxexpo P+R exchange hub at the beginning of March.
Ludovici explained that several routes now once again use the internal platforms – mainly stops 1A, 1B, and 1C – before continuing towards Boulevard Pierre Frieden.
In total, four of the 24 routes previously using stop 4 have been moved back inside. Bus operators have also been reminded of operational rules on Boulevard Pierre Frieden, including the obligation not to leave engines running while stationary, with additional checks being carried out, according to Ludovici.
Ludovici highlighted that further changes are expected later this year with the opening of the new Héienhaff mobility hub. Passengers with questions or feedback can contact Mobilitéit via service@mobiliteit.lu or by phone on 2465 2465 (available seven days a week during office hours).
