Government reactionOur substitute teachers do not lack in quality: Claude Meisch

RTL Today
After a much-discussed podcast segment involving comments around the national education system already drew a reaction from the municipality of Differdange, the Minister of Education has now taken a position as well.

YouTuber Eric Rolgen was a guest during the second episode of the "Gëlle Fro" podcast, during which he painted a colourful picture of his time working as a substitute teacher:

RTL Today article: Luxembourgish YouTuber infuriates municipality of Differdange with controversial comments (13 Dec. 2020)Minister Meisch concluded that the statements made by YouTuber Eric Rolgen could not be left uncommented. He noted: "Naturally, I understand the dismay. We analysed the situation right away and determined that he last worked as a substitute teacher back in March 2018. His license has now been permanently revoked, meaning he will not be able to return to the position at any stage in the future. We are further considering legal steps, since it is our sincere belief that nobody should rant publicly about what is happening inside the classroom. Unfortunately, we are not able to determine what exactly occurred during the incident that was discussed in detail during the podcast."

He further stated his belief that the department of substitute teachers does not lack in quality. The mandatory training period of 4 weeks has only been halted to accelerate the recruitment process in light of the pandemic. Nevertheless, Minister Meisch also acknowledged that the main goal for many remains the high salary.

Meanwhile, Rolgen has accepted the invitation from the municipality of Differdange to meet and discuss the particular event, Mayor Christiane Rausch announced.
