The event is usually celebrated in the town of Nospelt, as well as on the old Fish Market behind the Grand Ducal Palace in the capital. The highlight of the festivities are the so-called "Péckvillercher", small whistling birds made from clay, which people can only buy that very day.

Although there were no physical vendors in either location this year, people are still able to browse through a selection of Péckvillercher in an online shop.

The Emaischen only had to be cancelled twice prior to the Covid-9 outbreak. Once in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War, and once in 1918 when Luxembourg City was being bombed.
