Following a unanimous vote by the board of directors, Professor Olivier Guillon has been appointed to lead operations at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), stepping into his new role on 1 September this year.

The scientist, who holds both French and German nationality, recently worked at the Jülich Research Centre – part of the Helmholtz Association, the largest scientific organisation in Germany – where he led the Institute for Energy and Climate Research. Guillon also lectures at the RWTH Technical University in Aachen and holds a representative position within the Helmholtz Programme, part of which is to regularly communicate between field actors, governments, and international advisory groups.

Until Guillon officially takes up his position, day-to-day management will be handled by Deputy Director Dr Jürgen Joossens between June and August. Former LIST director Thomas Kallstenius announced his departure in 2023, after which Dirk Fransaer took on the role of interim director.

LIST currently employs around 750 people and is active in various research fields, including information technology, materials science, space resources, and environmental sustainability.
