The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) has reiterated its demands, chiefly the installation of protective cabins in all RGTR buses, to provide better protection for drivers. The call comes against the backdrop of a recent assault on a bus driver on the Luxembourg–Villerupt connection, which has seen repeat incidents of aggression in the past.
At present, just under half of RGTR buses are equipped with such cabins.
However, the Luxembourg’s largest trade union points out that some safety cabins do not meet all the criteria required to guarantee driver protection. Consequently, to counter such assaults, the OGBL is calling for the installation of secure cabinets to be stepped up, and for precise safety criteria for such cabs to be drawn up and applied.
Another of its demands is to provide a psychological and possibly legal support plan for the drivers concerned, as well as increased cross-border cooperation to prevent and prosecute acts of violence on public transport.
