Both OGBL or LCGB unions have released communications indicating they did not wish to react at this stage to Georges Mischo’s comments, following an emotional and critical interview he gave to RTL Radio on Thursday morning.

Mischo’s successor, CSV labour minister Marc Spautz, said Georges Mischo had earlier described how he felt and how he had experienced events, adding that he would continue along his chosen path and seek to rebuild relations with the unions, saying he wanted to ‘establish dialogue and regain their trust so we can move forward’.

Spautz also declined to comment on Mischo’s claims that the government had not handled relations with the unions carefully enough when setting out expectations in the coalition agreement.

The new minister said he had not been present at the meetings and therefore could not judge the situation. However, he said he intended to ensure that the coalition agreement’s commitments were upheld and hoped to secure as much progress as possible at the negotiating table. He added that, ultimately, the government would have to take a decision.
