A Chamber discussion on drug crime in Luxembourg is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Attention is expected to once again focus on security in the Gare district. Furthermore, MPs will discuss the evolution that has taken place since police and gendarmery were fused into one body 20 years ago.

When both units initially joined forces in 2000, there were close to 1,300 police officers. Today, there are almost twice as many with 2,550 officers. It is important to note in this context that Luxembourg's population has simultaneously increased by 44% over the last two decades.

With the help of the most recent recruitment campaign, the Grand Ducal Police is expected to get further reinforcement over the coming four years: 700 new officers and 240 civilian employees.

Minister for Internal Security Henri Kox provided this information in his response to a parliamentary enquiry by party colleague Stéphanie Empain.
