Following tunnel collapseNo trains to operate between Kautenbach and Wilwerwiltz until end of the year

RTL Today
After a railway tunnel between Kautenbach and Wilwerwiltz collapsed last week, national railway company CFL has announced that the affected section will remain closed until at least 11 December 2022.

The tunnel collapse occurred on 27 August. CFL already announced that a number of studies have been launched to determine the cause of the breakdown and that all safety requirements had been respected during restoration works.

A CFL statement announces that a new road will be constructed near the tunnel to facilitate access to the construction site and accelerate the operation. Nevertheless, officials currently estimate that the route will remain closed until at least 11 December this year.

As of 12 September, Kauenbauch will thus be the final terminal for trains coming from Luxembourg City. Those from Liège will make their final stop at the train station in Clervaux. For the time being, busses will cover the routes where trains can no longer operate.

Finalised schedules will be released next week.
