In response to a parliamentary question, Minister of Health Paulette Lenert said Luxembourg was not at risk of a measles epidemic as it currently stands. Green MPs Hansen and Lorsché had cited recent warnings issued by the WHO and Unicef regarding the spread of measles.
Virtually all children living in Luxembourg are vaccinated against measles. 87% of children have received the combination vaccine against measles, mumps, German measles and chickenpox.
Children aged six months and over are particularly at risk of catching measles. Potential complications can include lung infections, meningitis and encephalitis.
Any cases of measles in Luxembourg must be reported to authorities by law.
