In Luxembourg, all detected cases are male with an average age of 37 years. The other epidemiological and clinical characteristics of the cases detected in Luxembourg are very similar to the cases reported at a European level.

Vaccination against monkeypox of certain persons at risk has started at the National Infectious Diseases Service ((+352) 44 11-31 29 to book an appointment) since 16 August 2022.

As of 21 September 2022, 628 people have received a first dose and 230 people a second dose.

The Health Directorate reminds people that it is important to protect themselves against the virus and to avoid risky situations in order to limit the spread of the virus. Infected people should be isolated and avoid contact with other people, cover lesions and pimples and ensure hand hygiene.

Protective measures include reducing the number of sexual partners and not sharing personal belongings with infected people or people who have been in contact with infected people (bed linen, towels, razors, etc.).
