With no traffic deaths, 2019 has been an exceptionally safe year so far - at least traffic-wise, L'Essentiel reported on Friday. By comparison, 12 people had lost their lives in 2018 during the same time period.
2018 was a deadly year in general, as 35 people died on Luxembourg's roads. That's considerably more than in 2016 and 2017, when the death toll amounted to 29 and 24 people respectively.
Luxembourg's ambitious goal for the long run: to realise what's called "vision zero." In other words, the aim is to reduce traffic deaths and severe injuries to zero. The perhaps more realistic intermediate goal is to reduce the number of casualties to 16 and the number of serious injuries to 133 by 2020.
