As part of their prevention strategy, the Police and Road Safety Luxembourg are putting the spotlight on visibility and the proper technical condition of vehicles on the country’s roads in their new “Winter Season 2026” campaign.

The point is particularly important during periods of rain, cold, and fog.

Given that bad weather can make driving on the country’s roads more hazardous, drivers should make sure their vehicles are in good working order.

Checks will accordingly be carried out across the country until the end of the year, with an enforcement phase running until mid-November.

If a driver is caught with a lighting issue on their vehicle during that period, they will be given five days to put the matter right.

Failure to do so will result in an official citation.

Advice from the Police:

  • See and be seen. All vehicle lights must be fully functional. Pedestrians, cyclists and runners should wear clothing that makes them easily visible, even from a distance.
  • Vehicles must be in perfect technical condition, equipped with the appropriate tyres, and have clear, unobstructed windows.
  • Keeping a safe following distance is especially important during the darker months of the year, as is sticking to speed limits.
  • Where weather conditions demand it, driving behaviour must be adjusted accordingly.
