
The vehicles are replaced every five years due to heavy use and deteriorating conditions.
The update is also an opportunity to make use of the most up-to-date medical and communications equipment. The new SAMU (Emergency Medical Assistance Service) vehicles are Mercedes SUVs, built by a company based in Bonn. The total cost of the new fleet amounts to around €2.2 million.
The cars were unveiled on Tuesday by Minister of the Interior, Taina Bofferding, and the Director General of the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps at the CGDIS centre in Lintgen. They are to be stationed across the 5 bases around the country. Recently, the CGDIS estimated the first responders would be deployed around 8,000 times in 2020.
