Not too rarely one hears of someone who ended their grief by jumping off the bridge. The capital hopes to prevent suicides through a higher railing, as observed on the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge, commonly referred to as the Red Bridge. Given the proximity of the Pétrusse skate park, the likelihood of children and adolescents witnessing a suicide is unfortunately high. Current constructions seek to widen the viaduct, ultimately increasing security.
Your Voice: Suicide Prevention - Centre d’Information et de PréventionThe Public Roads Administration is currently working on a cycling path on the Passerelle, simultaneously installing a new railing. Most of the railing will be permanent, but another 1,30 meters of mesh wire are to be added to obtain a height of 2,65 meters.
Apparently the city council rather than the government had insisted on the additional protective measures. The National Sites and Monuments Service, too, did not have any objections so long the installations could be removed.
The revalorisation of the Pétrusse valley is being realised by the cooperation of Luxembourg City and the Public Roads Administration. On the other hand, Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch was surprised to see the construction of a newer and much larger car park in Grund.
The project goes hand in hand with the elevator destined to travel from the Gëlle Fra down to the valley. Minister Bausch is confident that the project will be successfully completed.
However, he believes there to be a slight conflict of interests. Why build a car park, if the new tram, the good bus connections, and cycling paths hope to reduce car traffic?
