In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, the public prosecutor’s office announced that authorities in Luxembourg seized 798.84 kg of cannabis at Findel Airport on 13 November.
According to the prosecutor’s office, customs officers discovered the narcotics during a documentation check for a shipment arriving from the United States. The air cargo had already been flagged as suspicious due to certain discrepancies. The documents listed the contents as 3,063 kg of “furniture, deckchairs, stools” destined for a company in Belgium. The shipment comprised 12 cardboard boxes stacked on pallets and wrapped in black plastic.
A scan revealed that the hollow spaces inside the deckchairs contained additional packages. Upon opening the boxes and inspecting the furniture, customs officers discovered 170 vacuum-sealed packages. A rapid test confirmed the substance was cannabis, which the prosecutor’s office described in its statement as “good quality,” with a total weight of 798.84 kg.

As the shipment was not intended for the domestic market, Luxembourg customs and police contacted their Belgian counterparts. In a coordinated operation, authorities allowed the pallets to be delivered to the address in Belgium. It was later determined that Belgium was also merely a transit country, as the individuals behind the shipment had diverted the delivery to another European destination. To avoid compromising the ongoing investigation, the prosecutor’s office withheld further details.
Given that Luxembourg served only as a transit point, the public prosecutor’s office has formally reported the case and requested that the relevant foreign authorities take over the investigation.
