On Thursday, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) published its latest report on the country’s labour market.

In the 4th quarter of 2021, “the salaried employment market increased by +1.0% compared to the third quarter”, the institute writes, predominantly in “the activities of trade, transport, accommodation and catering, as well as administration and other public services”. As a result, Luxembourg had more than 497,000 resident and cross-border workers in February of this year.

Over the past seven years, 96,450 people have joined Luxembourg’s workforce, an increase of +24%. 44,394 people are residents. But the number of salaried cross-border workers rose from 166,899 in February 2015 to 218,425 in February 2022.

Among them, 112,459 come from France, 50,386 from Germany and 49,499 from Belgium.

The bar chart below (in French) shows the increase in cross-border workers, resident workers and total number of workers between February 2015 and February 2022. The number of non-EU residents increased by 10.8%.
