
The national crisis unit, presided by Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden, has been repeatedly meeting at Senningen Castle on Wednesday morning due to the red weather alert. Two sessions were held by 8am and the government is scheduled to meet at 11am. Until then, all current measures stay in place.
Speaking to RTL reporters, Minister Gloden reiterated the call to people to stay home if possible.
A number of weather-related measures were already announced on Tuesday, including the closure of schools and the ban of lorry traffic on motorways. According to a Wednesday announcement, some bus routes connecting the Grand Duchy to the greater region have now also been suspended. At present, this affects the following connections:
Minister Gloden assured reporters that Luxembourg authorities are in contact with those abroad to coordinate.
In a statement, the crisis unit has also announced that temperatures are expected to rise in the afternoon, which means the freezing rain might make room for snow. The state of vigilance will stay in place until 2pm.
