
Schools will close in Luxembourg on Wednesday as the national crisis unit declared a red alert for freezing rain and snow.
The national crisis unit, chaired by Minister for Home Affairs Leon Gloden, made the decision to issue the alert on Tuesday evening.
The government recommends that all residents should stay at home on Wednesday and only leave the house if absolutely necessary.
Schools will effectively be closed on Wednesday, although they will remain open during regular hours to receive pupils who have no other options.
This includes all state primary and secondary schools and lycees, as well as other educational centres including Maison Relais day care centres.
School transport is cancelled, as is the Adapto service.
Major disruption is expected on transport networks across the country.
