Transport sector disputeMunicipal staff union seeks mediation over TICE working conditions

RTL Today
The conflict between the General Federation of Municipal Workers (FGFC) and bus syndicate TICE has come to a head, as the union is now referring the matter to Luxembourg's judicial mediation service.

In a statement published on Thursday, the FGFC said it had been trying to establish dialogue for over a year in order to tackle the unfair working conditions and staff difficulties at TICE, with a view to creating a healthy work atmosphere. However, neither TICE management nor those with political responsibilities appeared willing or ready to sit down with the union.

In September, employees demonstrated outside TICE headquarters to draw attention to the deterioration in their workplace, citing issues such as inflexible leave policies, mandatory visits to the company doctor even for short-term illness, and staffing shortages.

Now, after another month of inaction, the FGFC declared enough was enough, and said they would be referring the matter to the judicial mediation system.

“We have done everything to keep the dialogue going – but if every outstretched hand is ignored, the only remaining option is mediation,” the union wrote.
