Luxembourg police recorded several cases of drink-driving during routine checks on Friday night.

In a three-hour operation near Diekirch, officers conducted alcohol tests in Gilsdorf and Ingeldorf, stopping 742 drivers between 11pm and 2.15am. Seven motorists tested positive for alcohol, with three having their driving licences immediately revoked.

Additional checks took place in Alzingen, Rollingergrund, and on Route de Trèves in Luxembourg City, where 176 drivers were screened. Nine were found to be over the legal limit, resulting in one on-the-spot licence revocation.

Police also responded to several isolated incidents. In Gosseldange, officers discovered an injured individual beside their damaged vehicle around 1.30am. The driver, who showed signs of alcohol impairment, was stripped of their licence.

Meanwhile, in Wiltz, a motorist was stopped after driving the wrong way down a one-way street. A positive breathalyser test led to their licence being revoked.

Another driver in Berdorf lost their licence after police observed them driving erratically.

In Dudelange, two separate incidents occurred – one driver crashed their car off the road, while another was caught during a routine traffic stop, both under the influence of alcohol.
