Chamber of DeputiesMPs debate changes to Housing pact 2.0

RTL Today
A recent poll carried out by TNS-Ilres revealed that affordable housing remains the number one issue in Luxembourg.

During the Thursday debate, MP Marc Lies from the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) addressed article 24 in the pact, which still displays inequalities between municipalities and public construction firms.

Lies noted: “We find it extremely concerning that we are supposed to vote on a pact designed to incentivise municipalities to create more affordable housing, and then we see that there is no possible way of implementing it in real life due to flawed legislation.”

In his response, Minister for Housing Henri Kox underlined that he already took said concerns into consideration after Lies voiced them during the last session of the housing commission. The Minister further ensured the MP that respective changes to the legislation will be made in due time.

The draft bill, which will abolish article 24, is scheduled to be filed in two weeks, Minister Kox further announced on Thursday.
