Over the past seven years, the creation of forest paths has been subsidised with close to €7.9 million. Mouvement Ecologique deemed this an unnecessary wastage of funds, which should better be invested into the sustainability of Luxembourgish woods.

The environmental organisation therefore welcomes the moratorium on the creation of new forest paths, which was recently announced by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development. Over the next two years, no additional paths will be created and the chopping of trees will be reduced to 30,000 cubic metres of wood. Four times as much was initially planned.

Mouveco further demands that the wildlife stock, which causes significant damages to trees, be reduced. Especially deer need to be hunted given that they are responsible for most of the damages. The organisation therefore wants realistic shooting plans that can actually be executed. Similarly, they want the shooting rate per permit to be published. Damages caused by game have to be calculated and reimbursed, the organisation further highlights.
