The A3 has been under construction for a year and allows traffic to travel at no more than 70 km/h on restricted lanes. At the French border, motorists can also see the construction of a protected wildlife crossing every day.
What was initially planned to be a five-year project has unfortunately been delayed with an expected completion date in 2030.
Nonetheless, the progress of the work is satisfying Roland Fox, the director of the Roads and Bridges Administration. The first of five phases of work, which is currently taking place between the Gasperich cross and Berchem, should be completed this autumn.
However, the main difficulty of the project lies further south in the Bettembourg crossing, where the A3 crosses the A13 motorway.
In terms of the budget, the rise in the price of construction materials could increase the cost of the project by €100 million to a total of €450 million.
