As part of the national 'Moto 2026' road-safety campaign, officers on Friday checked motorcyclists' equipment, as well as the general technical condition of their vehicles and their paperwork.
Among the findings, three motorcyclists were caught travelling too fast, two of them to the point of having to hand in their driving licences there and then.
Those two motorcyclists had been clocked at 157km/h in a 90km/h zone and 115km/h in a 50km/h zone, respectively. A further warning was issued following a test for the influence of drugs and medication.
Of the 173 other warnings handed out, 48 were for technical defects, such as damaged tyres, problems with lights, or non-regulation exhausts.
In 30 cases, the motorcyclists were unable to produce the required paperwork, while 27 motorcyclists were not wearing a protective jacket.
A further 30 warnings were issued for failing to respect road signs, 18 for excessive speeding, and 20 for not wearing their helmets despite it being a requirement.
