RTL Today
On Friday, the Tageblatt reported that the Pirates' top candidate for southern Luxembourg, Morgan Engel, had resigned from the party to join the LSAP.

Initial reactions sparked confusion, especially after Pirate MP Marc Goergen took to X to deny the switch. He did confirm that the LSAP had approached Engel but stressed that no formal agreement had been made at the leadership level.

Goergen’s statement was further confirmed by Differdange’s LSAP mayor, Guy Altmeisch, who confirmed that discussions had indeed taken place, but that there had been no definitive confirmation at the time.

However, both Morgan Engel and the LSAP confirmed the party switch on Monday. The municipal councillor explained that she hadn’t taken the decision lightly, writing that ‘all political work is impossible due to the current situation within the party.’ She did not further elaborate on the issues within the party.

Engel also added that she would continue her mandate as municipal councillor within the LSAP parliamentary group, noting that the values and core programme of the party align with her own political beliefs.

LSAP, in turn, expresses a welcoming attitude, adding that they are open to anyone who share their fundamental values. The party described ongoing talks with the municipal councillor as ‘good, constructive, and future-oriented’.
