Another piece of evidence was the emergency call made by the suspect on the day of the poisoning in September 2016.
The case revolves around the poisoning of two family members, the defendant's sister and her husband.
According to evidence presented at the trial, the defendant called emergency services at at 2.29 pm after his sister and her husband had lost consciousness. He reported that they were both breathing heavily and that the situation was serious.
Efforts to resuscitate proved futile and the time of death was noted as 4.32 pm, with no suspicion of foul play considered at the time.
The defendant, who was a policeman at the time, quickly became the main suspect. Three days after their death, the autopsies revealed that both victims had been poisoned with cyanide, leading to the defendant's arrest a day later.
During the interrogation, he revealed that his sister and her husband had drunk an alcoholic shot on the day in question, which both thought had tasted strange at the time. He also acknowledged having tampered with their drinks using substances ordered from the dark web. Although he further insisted that it was meant as a joke, the judge quickly dismissed the statement.
The attorney also brought forward a neighbour's statement, who had witnessed the death of the defendant's mother in 2014. She had fallen ill under similar circumstances, losing consciousness abruptly and dying shortly after.
The suspect refused to credit this statement with any response.
The trial is ongoing.
