According to host Hayley Allam, Season Two will continue to feature great stories from expats who are making life work in Luxembourg. Its goal is to inform, entertain, and help keep the conversation flowing about issues of concern and interest to parents in the English-speaking community, so tune in to Today Radio every Friday at 11am or catch the latest episodes on RTL Play.
And now, as schools around the country gear up to welcome parents and prospective students to their Open Day, there will be a particular emphasis on all you need to know about Luxembourg’s English-speaking schools.
Choosing a school is an enormous step for a child and parents alike, so knowing as much as you can is key to a well-informed decision and Hayley sets out to interview a parent from each of the English language options in the country.
The guests will guide parents through the points they should know about when it comes to everyday school life: those extra nuggets of information you won’t get anywhere else.
“It’s like a candid one-on-one parent conversation, like the kind that you would have if you had a friend whose kid went to the school. We’ll talk about the curriculum, but it’s more about the experience. How do they like the teachers? What kind of student does well at the school? How do they support special education? What is the traffic like at the school? It’s the kind of information that you won’t find on Google,” Hayley promises.
First up is president of the Parents’ Association of Primary International School Michel Lucius (ISML) Ulrik Møller and proud dad of three girls who attend the school.
The first dad on the pod, Ulrik offers a wide-ranging personal take on school life at the Limpertsberg-based campus.
Ulrik talks about the school’s communication systems, their philosophy of teaching, special education support, day care and social emotional development. If you’re considering ISML for your kids in the future or are curious about what it’s really like to go there – you’ll definitely want to tune in to this episode!
Guests featuring later in the series to weigh up other schools include parents Gretchen Blanchard discussing the International School of Luxembourg (ISL), Ellen Swinton talks about St George International School and Peter Jeffreys is on the pod about Gaston Thorn International School.
And later in the series, to coincide with Neurodiversity Awareness Month in April, Mom Life explores what it is like raising neurodivergent children in Luxembourg.
The founder of Passage (Parent support for English-speaking people in Luxembourg) Lynn Frank as well as the founder of Tilt Parenting, Debbie Reber will feature as well as parents Kate Brassington and Jennifer Cooper to discuss the area of inclusion.
Proving to be a useful resource for people considering a move to the Grand Duchy, Hayley says the feedback to her podcast has been “overwhelmingly positive”.
“I heard from one person who reached out to me as her husband found the show on Spotify and they live in South Africa. They’re coming here to live and she’s listening to every episode and it’s helping her prepare.”
Hayley encourages listeners to keep their suggestions coming on other relevant topics Mom Life could explore. “I’ve had a lot of people write in and ask about other ideas to cover. I’ve had feedback from people such as ‘I’ve been here for six years and I have two kids and I love your podcast and I love the questions that you ask.’”
