Minister of Defence Yuriko Backes and Minister of the Economy Lex Delles presented details on the country’s new defence strategy to the press on Thursday morning.

The strategy increases focus on research and innovation, new technology, as well as the industrial production of classic military materials. Sectors such as space, cyber security and artificial intelligence will undergo expansion.

A so-called “innovation pipeline” will be developed in order to provide targeted support to businesses in the sectors.

The Liberty Steel site in Dudelange will host a new “defence campus” and a new financial fund for defence will be launched in order to finance investments. An inter-ministerial committee will oversee the implementation of the strategy.
