Nevertheless, a number of issues remained unresolved after the end of the meetings, with both opposition and majority members still questioning procedures that led to the Fage deal in the first place.
It was recently revealed that Fage has spent a considerable amount of money of consulting agencies since initiating the move to the Grand Duchy:
€53 million for mystery consultants?MP Josée Lorsché (déi Gréng), who is also a councilwoman in Bettembourg, clearly opposes the project and emphasised that the recent news needed to be considered during the ongoing discussions. CSV chief whip Martine Hansen agreed that this particular issue required immediate resolving, and went even further by announcing a potential lawsuit.
Another area of controversy lies in the environmental implications for the region since the factory is estimated to use around 2,500 cubic metres of potable water per day. Hansen inquired: "How is this settled on a national level? Who will be prioritised if a drought were to occur? I believe this is a governmental issue that cannot simply be passed over to the municipalities."
Since the problems areas further include monetary compensation, reevaluation of the land, and the possibility of repurchasing it from Fage, MP David Wagner (déi Lénk) was left to conclude that the entire dossier would "reek" of former minister Schneider's catastrophic organisation. Hansen meanwhile warned that the issue could turn "sour".
