On Thursday, Romain Schneider, Minister for Social Security, addressed the controversy surrounding non-ecological pension investments, and defended them.
He maintained that officials had been working for years to improve the situation and invest less in fossil fuels such as gas and oil. These efforts, however, did not prevent Greenpeace and déi Lénk from criticising the use of pension funds to invest in such activities earlier this week. Greenpeace had even announced that it would file an appeal before the administrative court.
The minister said they were trying to invest more in sustainability as per the government programme. Investments in non-renewable energies would only represent a "small part" of the total amount of investments, said Schneider, in response to statements by dei Lénk.
