As the virus continues to spread both within the Grand Duchy and beyond, the Catholic Church has revised their previous decisions to the current situation. This one week after announcing the postponement and cancellation of several celebrations.
If most marriages and baptisms were cancelled until further notice last week, now there remain no exceptions: until then, some were still possible in the presence of the closest family. This, however, is no longer the case. Communions and confirmations scheduled by the end of May in Luxembourg are also cancelled. New dates can only be determined after the crisis has passed.
As a further precaution, all events were cancelled until April 3. This date has now been extended until April 30, but there is no doubt that the church will still send out messages before then. This particularly concerns masses. The archbishop continues to carry out the Sunday precept, said the church.
As for cemetery burials, they can only take place in the presence of very close family. Funeral masses will not take place before the end of the crisis.
Meanwhile, the Easter celebrations can be followed live, via streaming, but no one will be able to physically attend the ceremony at the Cathedral.
The pilgrimage of Our Lady of Fatima to “Baessent” (Wiltz), scheduled for Ascension Day, May 21, 2020, is also cancelled. Several tens of thousands of people participate each year. The Portuguese community is invited to participate in a pontifical mass including a procession in Luxembourg, on the 13 October 2020, as part of the extraordinary pilgrimage to the Comforter of the Afflicted, specifies the church.
As for the Octave Notre-Dame, it will take place from 2 to 17 May in a “reduced” form, that is, without an audience. Live streamings will be set up, in particular during the Pontifical Salvation. As such, information will be provided on the website www.cathol.lu “in due time.”
