A fire broke out in a building on Avenue de la Gare in Luxembourg City at around 10.30pm on Friday, prompting multiple eyewitnesses to contact the police after noticing heavy smoke.
Emergency responders at the scene discovered that polystyrene panels inside the building were burning, causing significant smoke but only minor structural damage according to initial assessments.
Witnesses reported seeing a man jump from a first-floor window and flee the scene. A short time later, police encountered the suspect on Rue de Strasbourg. He admitted to deliberately starting the fire and was allowed to leave after the questioning.
However, only a short time after his release, a loud crash drew the attention of a police officer to the junction of Rue Marie et Pierre Curie and Rue Auguste Lumière in Bonnevoie. It appeared that the same individual was involved in another incident, this time by damaging a parked car using a manhole cover.
Officers quickly apprehended the suspect once again. As he was deemed a danger to himself and others, he was taken to hospital for a medical assessment. He was later admitted for inpatient care.
