The festive season is already taking shape in Luxembourg City, where authorities traditionally install a total of 16 Christmas trees as part of the winter market preparations. This year’s main attraction at Place d’Armes, a 15-metre fir tree that is 35 years old, arrived from near Bonn in Germany on Saturday.
The delivery lorry carrying the unusually large cargo reached Place d’Armes at 6am, deliberately scheduled for a time when the city centre is still quiet and free from heavy traffic. This allowed the crew to manoeuvre the two large vehicles, the delivery lorry and a crane, needed to install the tree with minimal disruption. The tree had been securely packed for transport and, with careful coordination, was erected in less than an hour.
In the coming days, the new Christmas tree will be decorated and is set to bring festive cheer to Place d’Armes throughout the Christmas period. The tree is expected to remain on display until mid-January, serving as a centrepiece for seasonal celebrations in the heart of the city.
A detailed report on the installation will be featured in Saturday evening’s edition of the Journal.
