The fire started before 11am in a building under construction in the centre of Echternach, triggering a major intervention by emergency services. The cause of the fire remains to be determined.
The police had to close Route de Luxembourg (N11) at the intersection with the house a No 33.
Earlier in the morning, the Esch fire brigade also intervened to contain a fire in Grand-Rue near Place des Remparts. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
