The accident, which reportedly involved four vehicles, led to a major traffic jam. At times, both the overtaking lane and the right-hand lane were closed, and traffic had to be diverted past the scene via the hard shoulder.
Compounding the disruption, a vehicle broke down within the queue, further slowing the flow of traffic and delaying the clearance of the backlog.
As reported by the emergency services, two people were injured in the accident. Firefighters from Mondercange and Schifflange were deployed to the scene, along with crews from Esch and Dudelange.
