Pupils in primary and secondary education in Luxembourg can take advantage of the ‘Summer School’ programme.

The 2023 edition began on Monday and will end on 14 September, one day before the official start of the school year. On the agenda: guided activities, remedial classes, and a refresher course on the previous year’s lessons.

Online, the Summer School further offers pupils “free revision packs (from cycle 2.1 to 4e) to revise independently during the holidays”.

The Education Ministry claims that this year enrolments are up sharply. According to official figures, 6,266 pupils will be taking part in the 2023 edition, compared to 5,650 last year.

At primary level, the most in-demand courses are German and mathematics. At secondary level, the most popular courses are mathematics and French.

The programme is run by 438 volunteers, including 100 teachers and 338 students with “at least” A levels, according to the Education Ministry.

The Summer school was first launched in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis to “fill the gaps” in education that followed. Since then, it has become “one of the pillars of tutoring” in Luxembourg and, according to the Ministry, guarantees “greater equality of opportunity”.
