A recent Eurostat report closely examined alcohol prices around the EU, showing that certain member states charged twice as much for alcoholic drinks as others in 2019. Finland topped the table for most expensive alcohol, followed by Ireland and Sweden in second and third place respectively. Scandinavian countries dominated the top 5, with Denmark in fifth place.
Luxembourg fell just under the EU average in 17th place, followed by Lithuania, Slovenia and Slovakia. The Grand Duchy’s neighbours in Belgium and France ranked higher, with Belgium in 9th place and France just a spot ahead of Luxembourg in 16th. Germany, however, is the place to go for cheap drinks in the Greater Region, coming in 21st place.
Alcohol is cheapest in Eastern European states, with Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Czechia making up the bottom part of the table.
