While it has long been recognised that wages in Luxembourg exceed those of its neighbours, the latest data from Eurostat confirms the extent of this disparity, ranking the Grand Duchy as having the highest average salaries in the European Union.

In a report published on Friday, 6 November, the European Union’s statistical office found that the average annual salary in Luxembourg reached €85,600, equivalent to approximately €7,133 per month.

By comparison, Denmark, which ranks second in the Eurostat table, reported an average annual salary of €73,500, or €6,125 per month – a gap of more than €1,000 monthly. Ireland follows with an average full-time monthly salary of €5,365 (€64,387 annually).

Luxembourg’s neighbours in the Greater Region also perform strongly, with all three countries surpassing the European average monthly salary of €3,455. Belgium ranks fourth with an average of €5,165, followed by Germany in sixth place at €4,696, and France in ninth at €3,727 for full-time employees.

Eurostat calculates these figures based on annual salaries per full-time equivalent employee. For additional domestic context, data obtained by RTL Infos from the General Inspectorate of Social Security (IGSS) indicates that Luxembourg's gross median salary stands at €4,960 across all sectors. This breaks down to €4,584 in the private sector and €9,313 in the public sector.
