Luxembourg’s government aims to simplify administrative procedures for wind turbine construction as the country prepares to expand its renewable energy capacity. The number of wind turbines is expected to exceed 90 next year, up from the current 71, according to recent government figures.
To facilitate this growth, officials are organising a roundtable discussion with specialists and municipalities to streamline approval processes. Prime Minister Luc Frieden noted that discussions with key stakeholders and local authorities have already taken place.
While no fixed regulations dictate the distance between wind turbines and forests or residential areas, flexibility remains a priority. However, each project must still comply with environmental and authorisation requirements, with evaluations conducted on a case-by-case basis, according to Marianne Mousel, a senior adviser at the Environment Ministry.
Further details on the upcoming energy roundtable will be announced in due course.
