Minister of Defence François Bausch also took to social media to announce the military support and express Luxembourg’s solidarity with Ukraine, as did Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.
The list of equipment that Luxembourg will send to Ukraine includes 100 ‘Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapons’ (NLAW), Jeep military vehicles, as well as 15 military tents.
Furthermore, Ukraine will be offered access to a number of Luxembourg’s logistical services, including those from Cargolux. The number of Luxembourgish soldiers in the multinational NATO forces stationed in Lithuania will also be increased from four to six.
Minister Bausch also informed the Chamber’s defence commission about Luxembourg’s contribution to the EU fund in support of Ukraine, which was launched over the weekend.
The Grand Duchy may contribute up to €3 million, explained the Green politician: “This is a package that we created to finance the European fund on the one hand and to provide additional help from Luxembourg on the other. For instance, the 100 anti-tank weapons are already a substantial contribution since they represent almost the entirety of our respective arsenal. Although great, it is important that we conduct these efforts to demonstrate solidarity with a people that has asked for our help. I personally received a letter from the Ukrainian Defence Minister asking for aid, to which we responded appropriately and in solidarity.”
